Yoko Ono has teamed up with Opening Cermony to create a limited edition menswear collection for this holiday season.
Named ‘Fashions for Men: 1969-2012’, the line was inspired by a book of hand-drawn illustrations drawn by Ono, which she presented to John Lennon for their wedding in 1969.
From playful, intriguing hand cut-outs sewn over the crotch or the rear end, to transparent mesh shirts and chest plaques with bells, the kitschy Fashions for Men isn’t for the men that are shy and timid—some may even call it “weird”.
“I was inspired to create Fashions for Men amazed at how my man was looking so great,” she told VOGUE. “I felt that it was a pity if we could not make clothes emphasizing his very sexy bod. So, I made this whole series with love for his hot bod and gave it to him as a wedding present. You can imagine how he went wild and fell in love with me even more.”
The full range features 52 pieces of 18 different styles, and a book featuring Ono’s drawings.
Fashions for Men is available at Opening Ceremony’s New York and Los Angeles store, and will soon be available at the London and Tokyo store—with a price range from US$75 to US$750.
What do you think—avant-garde?
