Edible Food Packaging That Can Be Washed Without Dissolving

Harvard professor and scientist David Edwards has created a edible food packaging that can be washed⎯like fruit and vegetables⎯without disintegrating.

The mastermind behind food innovations such as smokable chocolate and vaporized alcohol, Edward’s latest product⎯“WikiCell”⎯is an organic packaging that mimics the skin of fruits like grapes.

An attempt to reduce the massive amount of food packaging used, WikiCell is made of a mix of crushed food⎯such as chocolate, dried fruit, nuts and seeds⎯and healthy ions like calcium and chitosan.

A gel-like material capable of holding anything from liquids to thick pudding, the favour of the WikiCell is matched to its content to ensure that it makes a delicious mouthful.

“A WikiBar” is set to open in Paris, where visitors can try WikiCell Ice Cream, the very first commercial product to use this new cutting edge packaging.
