A Typeface Inspired By The Beach, Wind And Waves

The wind and waves are the things that are usually associated with the beach.

These elements also inspired Jackkrit Anantakul of creative agency YouWorkForThem (YWFT) to create an experimental typeface ‘YWFT Swell’.

YWFT Swell isn’t exactly legible, but it focuses more “on form than function,” creative director of YWFT, Michael Paul Young told Computer Arts.

“We were inspired by the ideas of the ocean and wind creating letterforms.”

With this in mind, do typefaces always have to function?

Nonetheless, YWFT Swell expresses a form of freedom and release, like what you’d feel at a seaside.
