British Airways Introduces A Reusable, Electronic Luggage Tag

British Airways have partnered with creative agency Designworks and display manufacturer Densitron to create a reusable, electronic luggage tag.

The new tags use an ‘E-ink’ display, and updates flight details wirelessly when a user holds a smartphone over it, saving time at the airport.

British Airways decided on the simple ‘E-ink’ display because ‘E-ink’ devices do not use electricity except when “updating with new information”, ensuring that the battery will not run out mid-flight.

Another reason this was chosen over more complex bag trackers with in-built GPS and mobile connectivity was because they could be used anywhere in the world, without new systems being installed.

Frank van der Post, British Airways’ managing director, brands and customer experience, said, “This is a fantastically simple, yet smart device that gives each customer the choice to have their own personalised electronic baggage tag that changes with the swipe of a smartphone – every time they fly”.
