Social housing need not be dreary and uninspiring—Bordeaux-based French architectural firm Agence Bernard Buhler has proven this point with the residential project Algeria.
Located on the periphery of the city of Bayonne, Algeria consists of a collection of colourful, toy-like buildings that look a little like LEGO bricks.
The white apartment blocks are adorned with geometric red and green architectural elements, such as balconies and windows, which allow them to have a cheering, spirit-lifting effect on their occupants.
The apartments are also designed in such a way that plenty of natural light is able to stream in through the large windows that are partially covered with translucent colored panels.
