Gorgeous ‘Pitcher Plant’ Sculptures That Double As Streetlights

Seatle-based artist Dan Corson recently installed four 'pitcher plant' sculptures that double as solar-powered lamps, in Portland, Oregon.

The 17-foot tall sculptures are made from a translucent fiberglass, each decorated with a unique color scheme. Solar-powered LED lights formed around a steel spine allows them to glow at night.

Titled ‘Nepenthes’, the sculptures are named after the carnivorous pitcher plant as well as the “Greek magical potion that would cause the drinker to be relieved from or induce forgetfulness of pain, grief, or sorrow”.

Corson hopes that the sculptures will provide a “brief respite from a hectic daily life” and briefly transport us somewhere else.
