Sydney-based artist Alex Seton has created hyper-realistic marble sculptures of everyday clothes that look deceptively soft and comfortable.
Just by looking at the artworks from a little distance away without touching them, it would be very easy to mistake them for real, wearable clothes.
Depicting casual pieces like hooded sweatshirts and t-shirts, the artist has managed to replicate the soft folds and minute creases of fabric so closely that one feels compelled to reach out and touch these artworks just to make sure they really are made of marble.
The material that Seton uses for his work is not just any ordinary marble, but a white or blue-grey type from Carara, Italy, which has been used for art and architecture since the era of ancient Rome.
