NBC’s iconic rising sun logo for the Today Show recently got a brighter, sunnier redesign courtesy of Los Angeles-based brand and design firm Ferroconcrete.

Having been around for over 60 years, the network felt it needed a fresh new look that reflected a “personal, optimistic, emotional, and human” personality.

While the old logo contained red, orange and yellow tones to reflect the rising sun’s changing colors and scattering of light during dawn, the new logo features a cheerier orange sun meant to evoke a fully-formed sun signaling the start of a new day.

The new logo also transforms to reflect the show’s various categories as part of a cohesive identity to unify its respective segments and affiliated shows. In Today’s Weather, the sun is reimagined as an umbrella; in Today’s Travel, it becomes a suitcase.
