Fascinating Portraits Of Burlesque Dancers Taken Before And After Make-Up

In his fascinating photo series ‘Burlesque’, Baltimore-based photographer Sean Scheidt shows us how over-the-top costumes, make-up, props, and body language can transform a person’s appearance, changing the way we perceive them.

Scheidt took a series of before-and-after portraits of a group of burlesque dancers in Baltimore, revealing the stark contrast between their normal selves and their sizzling stage personas.

The transformations of these burlesque dancers are astounding—while most exuded sensuality, confidence, and much flair in their “after” portraits, a few seemed to have morphed into a completely different person, such as the woman dressed in a feathery boa and nipple tassels.

“What you see in their portraits is the person they are all the time. For other performers, the contrast can be astounding. Yet if you think about it, you realize that most people who work 9-5 jobs are transforming themselves, too,” said Scheidt.
