Afraid to try those fried creepy-crawlies seen at some street food stalls around the world? Why not dig into these life-like "bugs" instead, which are actually yummy sweets.
Japanese coffee stall Akai Tento no Koohii Ten, translated as The Red Tent Coffee Shop, is a small shop that serves up these sweets in a fishing harbor on the east coast of Aomori Prefecture.
These sweets are entirely hand-made and are filled with a variety of flavored jam—the white ‘Kabutomushi Youchuu Gumi’, shaped like a rhinoceros beetle larvae, is packed with blueberry jam that can be squeezed out of its chewy bodies, it is said to taste like the yogurt flavored drink Calpis.
These scary looking gummy bugs can be purchased for US$2.80 to US$3.20 each on Yahoo! Japan Shopping.
