Portraits Of Female Boxers That Challenge Notions Of Womanhood

Argentine photographer Claudia Gaudelli chose to show women in a different light by shooting female boxers for her series ‘Women Boxers.’

Gaudelli wanted to challenge notions of womanhood by portraying female athletes in a traditionally male-dominated sport.

Her subjects come from impoverished backgrounds, and boxing offered them a chance to rise out of poverty to build their hopes and dreams.

Through her portraits, Gaudelli hails their unwavering dedication and discipline that includes training everyday, and spending hours commuting from their neighborhoods.

“They train every morning, sometimes evenings too, day after day. All of them are pouring their hearts out for the chance to fulfill a dream, a shot at the world championship. This dream is what keeps them standing on their feet, this dream has kept them from falling, kept them waking up, training, struggling and fighting.”
