New York-based designer Victor Vetterlein has created a lamp that will not only illuminate your work space, but is delicious to eat as well.
The “Bite Me” Lamp is made of biodegradable plastic derived from vegetable glycerin and agar, which is as sturdy as regular plastic.
The light source is an adhesive LED strip that connects to an electric cord that plugs into an outlet—there is also an additional cord that allows you to plug it into your computer.
According to the designer, “When the lamp is no longer useful or desired, the lighting strip is removed and the lamp may be eaten or thrown into the garden as compost”.
To prepare the lamp for consumption, it has to be soaked in purified water for an hour—after which, it will soften up and take on the consistency of wet gummy bears.
Available in four different flavours—orange, cherry, blueberry and apple—this agar-made lamp is not merely edible, but rich in vitamins, nutrients and minerals as well.
