Most people take pictures to document their travels, but for Washington-based artist Chandler O’Leary, she illustrates them instead.
For the past several years, O’Leary has been travelling around the US—recording her travels in sketchbooks.
Using nothing but watercolors and pens, she beautifully illustrates the different places that she visits.
According to O’Leary, she said that she preferred drawing than taking pictures because it forces her to “really look” at what she sees before her.
“I might not get to every single landmark by choosing the slow road this way, but the memories of my travels are crystal-clear, even many years later, she wrote. This way, I’m relying on my eye, rather than the lens, to do all the seeing: what I lose in breath I gain in depth.”
