In The Philippines, ‘Superman’ Fan Undergoes Surgery To Look Like Him

At age five, Filipino Herbert Chavez became enamored with the caped crusader when he was watching television.

Now 35-years-old, this resident of Calamba City has had his skin whitened, pec and abdominal implants inserted, as well as nose jobs to look like Clark Kent.

These operations cost approximately US$6,884 and were done over a period of 16 years.

However, Chavez’s surgeon has operated on him for free, provided the Filipino Superman advertises for his practice.

Chavez, a dressmaker by day, also spends his time donning Superman’s iconic costume and gelling his hair in Kent's trademark curl, to teach children “good morals” as he cannot “save the world”.

Although he doesn’t have any regrets, he admits that there are downsides trying to “keep up” with Superman’s perfection.

As he is Asian, there were also other constraints that he had to consider while going under the knife—his cleft chin, for example, gets dehydrated and must be replenished by hydrogel.

Chavez intends to change the shape of his abdomen and buttocks, but did state that he will stop going for surgery should it prove to be detrimental his health.

This ultimate “Superfan” also holds the Guinness World Record for having the most Superman memorabilia with 1,253 items.

Unlike Superman, who has Lois Lane to love, Chavez is also hoping to share his life with someone who is as big of a fan as he is.
