In 2002, New York-based photographer Howard Schatz photographed and published a book titled ‘Athlete’, chronicling 125 men and women who have competed in the Olympics.
The striking thing about all the athletes’ portraits is the fact that no two so-called athletic bodies are the same.
From a stereotypical six-pack body, from tall to short, muscle-laden or long and lean, these people all have the title of ‘Olympian’ and ‘athlete’, and yet they have incredibly different body shapes.
Schatz’s work definitely gives one some food for thought about how we may be similar in some ways, and yet vastly different in others.
