As part of the 2013 Tokyo Designers Week, a fascinating chair called Mamoris, that transforms into a helmet, has been created.
The name Mamoris comes from the Japanese words ‘mamoru’, which is to protect, and ‘isu’, which means chair.
In Japan, where the land is prone to earthquakes, this chair design provides "safety right under your butt".
Co-founder of Mamoris, Yuji Ikawa, says “You never know when a natural disaster like an earthquake might strike you, we thought about how best to implement safety into our daily lives.”
Thus, this chair provides a clever dual function of sitting and life-saving, and even eliminates the need for the storage of an additional helmet.
It will definitely be a useful piece of furniture you would want in an emergency.
