New York-based artist Andrea Mastrovito gives new life to old books in this beautiful art installation.
Using hundreds of cut-outs from old books, Mastrovito created two versions of the installation, titled ‘The Island of Dr Mastrovito’ and ‘The Island of Dr Mastrovito ll’.
Featuring nature illustrations, the cut-outs are placed across the floor, resembling an island occupied by flora and fauna. Animals such as pandas, cats and rabbits can be seen among the colorful flowers while butterflies and bats hang on the walls and ceiling respectively.
Mastrovito explained that the installation was an effort by him “to instill a new life into that which was once alive in a different way (books from paper, paper from wood, and wood from trees).”
