Kraków-based photographer, painter and graphic artist Natalia Wiernik has an on-going series titled ‘The Protagonists’ where she captures unusual portraits of modern, off-beat ‘families’.
Her subjects come from diverse backgrounds, and some are related while others are not. What brings them together are their commonalities and lifestyles.
Wiernik attempts to explore the idea that emotional closeness and kinship are a result of shared experiences and values.
By photographing her subjects against fantastic backdrops, she aims to celebrate their quirks, and make viewers wonder about their relationships with each other outside of the frames.
