A Waste And Advertising-Free Supermarket Concept

Business partners Milena Glimbovski and Sara Wolf have conceptualized Original Unpacked (Original Unverpackt), a concept supermarket that aims to cut out all the frivolities one would get in a regular supermarket, and present groceries to shoppers in an honest and unassuming manner.

Original Unpacked wipes out the unnecessary confusion caused by advertising and adds transparency and quality to the grocery shopping experience. Not all of the products sold are organic, but its focus will remain on locally-sourced items and items that have little packaging.

At this supermarket, shoppers have to bring their own containers and bags to fill from bulk-bins, produce shelves, or an electric filling station for beverages. Here, there is total transparency as all product information such as nutritional information and its origins are clearly labeled. These items are also carefully chosen and tested by the supermarket so there are no mixed advertising messages.

This business model seeks to reduce not only package waste, but also food waste. It could also allow greater control in ordering realistic quantities based on demand.

The project is currently on Startnext, a German crowdfunding site.
