McDonald’s red french fries box is almost as iconic as its golden arches logo, which is probably why it has remained largely unchanged over the years.
In honor of the upcoming World Cup, the fast food giant has decided to redesign its medium and large fry boxes for the first time in history, to showcase the World Cup-themed artworks of 12 international artists.
Its looks is only part of the fry box’s transformation. The new designs would be introduced in conjunction with an augmented reality game app named “McDonald’s GOL!”—after customers have downloaded the app, they can hold their mobile device in front of the fry box, a gesture that would trigger the start of the mobile game.
A virtual soccer pitch would then appear on the screen and players could then try to shoot a target into the “goal”.
These redesigned fry boxes would launch globally on 27 May 2014—read more about this interactive campaign here.
