This new meme originated from Imgur, and shows a straight white male who looks like a “douche”, complete with shades and an oh-so-casually unbuttoned shirt. Each caption begins with a comment that seems sexist, and is subverted with an empowering sentiment.
Some examples include, “That chick totally blew me—away with her courage in declining to participate in gender stereotypes”, and “I’d hit that button on the voting machine—Hillary 2016!”
Feminist Frank has become very popular as it shows that even men who look like jerks can be supportive of equal rights. This meme is empowering for everyone, reminding us that negative gender stereotypes and perceptions prevent us from understanding ourselves better.
Moreover, this meme echoes the many concerns for equality that women have voiced out on the internet, and can be seen as a way to include men and educate them on issues related to gender.
However, some people have reservations with this meme, as they feel that women do not need men to validate them.
