Fascinating X-Rays Reveal The Bizarre Objects Found In Pets’ Stomachs

Honorable Mention: A toy alien figure found in a 5-month-old male kitten

If you’re a pet owner, you’ve probably caught your pet chewing and in some instances, ingesting things its not supposed to.

Now into its ninth year, the ‘They Ate WHAT?!’ competition held by veterinary website Veterinary Practice News features the bizarre objects found in the stomachs of pets.

Vet practices that participate stand to win cash prizes of up to US$1,500 to “support the uncompensated care these hospitals provide pets.”

This year’s winning entry was a frog named Kermit that had over 30 small ornamental stones in its belly. Its owner had noticed it eating the rock substrate in its cage, and sent the amphibian for X-rays which confirmed his suspicions. The rocks in the cage were promptly removed after the frog’s surgery.

Other eye-popping entries included a Great Dane that had eaten 43-and-a-half socks, and a bearded dragon with a tiny plastic banana stuck in its stomach.

Incredibly, all of the animals featured recovered from their eating misadventures without complications.
