Journalist Asks Artists Around The World To Make Her Beautiful

The original unedited image

We previously featured American journalist Esther Honig’s ‘Before & After’ project where she invited designers around the world to give her picture a makeover, according to their definition of beauty in their home country.

Now her friend and fellow journalist Priscilla Yuki Wilson has carried out the same experiment.

Like Honig, Wilson enlisted the help of nearly 30 digital artists from over 25 countries with the request to “make me beautiful” for her project ‘Before & After Part Two.’

Wilson, who is African American and Japanese, grew up questioning her biracial identity. “The question ‘what are you?’ regularly influences how I experience the world. It serves as a reminder that I am still living in a culture that’s still adjusting to my kind of face.”

She was spurred to embark on her project to see how her face would look like in different cultures.

As expected, the artists rendered her skin tone lighter or darker, and changed her nose and jawline. While most of the changes were predictable, Wilson was happiest with those that kept her face as natural-looking as possible.
