Witty Prank Makes It Seem Like The Hollywood Sign Has Fallen Down The Hill

London-based studio Ordinary Architecture came up with a witty installation as part of the On The Road Project, titled ‘Falling Icons’.

Replicas of the iconic Hollywood sign were placed along the paths of Hollywood Hills for unsuspecting trekkers to discover. They would also come across a series of viewfinders striped like rockslide warning signs, through whose lens they can see that letters are missing from the Hollywood sign in the distance.

As they move up the hill, they would find more "fallen" letters, until there is none left on the sign.

The installation playfully suggests that the letters have tumbled down the hill, and it attempts to satisfy the desire of every visitor to be able to touch and get close to the iconic sign, which are made inaccessible to the public by security fences and cameras—it also “imagines how the loss of such an landmark might affect this legendary vista”.
