Move over résumés and portfolios, Dutch creative Max Kurstjens shows that the new way to get the attention of prospective employers is to ‘hijack’ their hashtags.
Kurstjens said in an email interview that he had difficulties getting in touch with various advertising agencies for an internship opportunity, so he decided to hold their Instagram hashtags hostage.
“Why? To get their attention and to mock the hashtag phenomenon, especially in the advertising world,” he says.
He has created different Instagram accounts and flooded the feeds of various agencies like Leo Burnett, DDB Worldwide and TBWA with their respective hashtags.
These images will then direct users to ‘We Have Your Hashtag’—a specially created website showing the agencies’ hashtags being subjected to three different kinds of torture.
The only way to save the hashtag is to invite Kurstjens for a job interview.
