‘Exploding Kittens’ Raises $4.5M On Kickstarter, Most Backed Project Ever

Exploding Kittens’, a card game created by cartoonist Matthew Inman of popular web comic The Oatmeal, has officially become the “most backed Kickstarter project” of all time.

As of writing, Inman’s Kickstarter project has been funded by more than 115,000 backers and has received more than US$4.5 million in pledges—with 21 days to go.

The initial goal for the project was $10,000, but that was funded in a mere 20 minutes. It also reached 1,000% funding within an hour.

According to its Kickstarter page, “Exploding Kittens is a highly strategic kitty-powered version of Russian Roulette. Players take turns drawing cards until someone draws an exploding kitten and loses the game. The deck is made up of cards that let you avoid exploding by peeking at cards before you draw, forcing your opponent to draw multiple cards, or shuffling the deck.”
