A new documentary series by BBC One, titled Pet - Wild at Heart, takes us on an insightful look at what happens when hamsters start stuffing their cheek pouches with food.

The X-ray footage shows that the pouches are able to stretch all the way back to the little rodent’s hips—the food are kept fresh as they do not secrete saliva in the process of filling their cheeks.

Catch the two-part series on BBC One this 21 January 2015, to find out more about the amazing abilities of hamsters.
