Pankcakes No. 5, inspired by Chanel
Exploring the theme of luxury and consumerism, New York-based artist and creative Chloe Wise has created an intriguing collection of food-themed sculptures that are quirky recreations of designer bags by luxury fashion brands.
Drawing inspiration from the creations of Chanel, Prada, Louis Vuitton and other well-known labels, she makes the viewer look at these high fashion accessories differently by re-making them with pancakes, waffles, bagels and bread.
For instance, the piece named “Pancakes No. 5” shows a purse that is covered with a generous stack of syrup-soaked pancakes, which is topped with the iconic logo of fashion house Chanel.
These tongue-in-cheek artworks are humorous in nature, and show the similarity between designer goods and art pieces where both are seen as “pieces of cultural capital”.
