Empowering Portraits Of Cancer Survivors Celebrate The Human Spirit



Several years ago, Cox Health System approached American photographer Randy Bacon with an intriguing proposal.

The request was for him to develop a series of images of cancer survivors, to be displayed permanently at the Hulston Cancer Center. These photographs were to be a source of inspiration for patients battling against the illness.

What began with 14 individuals gradually grew to over 50 portrait subjects as part of Bacon’s project ‘Sweet Life’.

The photos exude the love, hope, happiness and strength of the cancer survivors. According to BuzzFeed, Bacon mentioned that what he’s “noticed as a thread that links all of the survivors is the belief that life is a gift”.
