Airbnb’s New Tablet App Emulates The Look & Feel Of Browsing A Magazine

Airbnb has rolled out a photo-centric tablet version of its existing app aimed at iPad and Android users.

The updated app, which was released on Wednesday night, boasts hi-resolution images to cater to large mobile screens, with search results displayed in a pleasing grid layout. These visual-focused features serve to enhance the Airbnb mobile experience for tablet users.

According to Airbnb design chief Alex Schleifer, the tablet app emulates the look and feel of flipping through a glossy magazine.

“We know that people explore cities through the photos of our homes so we wanted the tablet to really make this front and center,” said Schleifer to Mashable.

The existing features in Airbnb’s smartphone app such as the ability to browse and book listings, contact hosts, and get directions are present in the new tablet version.

While the tablet app is currently only available for iOS and Android, Schleifer hints that the company may develop a version for Windows or the Apple Watch in the future.

Download it at the App Store and Google Play.
