French animation student Gwenn Germain spent five months working on a stunning homage to Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki.

His short is titled ‘Celles et Ceux des Cimes et Cieux’, or ‘Girls and Guys from Summits and Skies’ and tells the story of a young boy who lives in a village perched on a giant tree, who one day falls into the depths of the forest and meets two forest-dwelling strangers who help him return home.

The short film contains countless references to Studio Ghibli films, with iconic images from Mononoke, creatures from Spirited Away as well as visually pleasing scenes that are reminiscent of Howl's Moving Castle and The Wind Rises. Germain even used excerpts by legendary composer and long-time Miyazaki collborator Joe Hisaishi. Miyazaki himself shows up in the final moments of the film, making the film a clear tribute to the animator.
