Drawing inspiration from traditional Russian figurines, this nesting doll opens up to reveal something surprising.
Designer Masahiko Yoshihara's piece, named ‘Mato Ryoko’ appears to be a regular baboushka, but opens up to reveal a bikini-clad woman.
According to Yoshihara, the piece is a representation of the pre-conceptions we have about a person's appearance, words and reputation, and challenges the viewers to discover the essence of a person.
The design piece won the excellence prize at the Tokyo Midtown Design Awards, and is currently exhibited at the
Milano Salone this year.
