Designers Masashi Kawamura and Kota Iguchi have made an incredibly mesmerizing animation out of compact discs.

Created as a music video for the Japanese band, SOUR, this creative project was aided by the fans, who pledged money to Kickstarter, ensuring completion of the project.

Inspired by the song’s lyrics, which speaks of life as a cyclical rhythm, Kawamura decided to use CDs to create a phenakistoscope, making use of a type of technology which makes images move when the disc is being spun around.

The makers of the video also synced the speed of the discs to the frame rate of the film camera, which makes the transitions of this animation look seamless.
