As Google moves towards a more minimalist, flatter design, New York-based designer Matt Delbridge was tasked to redesign Google Street View’s lovable mascot, Pegman, while he was working at studio B-Reel.

While Pegman was altered to be more aligned with Google’s new design aesthetics, some of his most identifiable characteristics were retained to ensure that he does not lose his unique personality.

To launch this new version of the man-shaped icon, the Google team launched a one-day social media campaign that celebrates his fun spirit and versatility where users are invited to suggest costumes they would like to see Pegman in on his next adventure.

The result is the creation of over 200 Pegman variations that saw the orange little man dressed up in different outfits and as famous pop culture characters—these original Pegmen are then released on Maps’ Google+ page over a period of 7 hours.
