In the future, children may be able to have their desired Happy Meal toys 3D-printed in real-time at their neighborhood McDonald’s outlet.
Recently, the fast food chain’s UK IT Director Mark Fabes pondered about the possibility of using in-store 3D-printers to produce the brand’s beloved toys that are bundled with its kids menu.
The idea is to avoid the situation where children are disappointed about getting the wrong toy, which can ruin “the enjoyment of a nutritious McD’s” for the entire family.
While McDonald’s currently has no plans to turn this high-tech idea into reality—and there may be health issues regarding the use of 3D-printer in food outlets—it doesn’t seem like such a remote possibility considering how the 3D-printer is set to become a common everyday tool.
What do you think of Happy Meal toys being 3D-printed on demand—an exciting prospect or just another commercial gimmick?
