Wanting to explore the potential of temporary furniture, Spanish designer Jorge Penadés constructed the ‘Normadic Chair’, a “temporary seat” that can be worn like a backpack.

Unlike normal furniture, the ‘Normadic Chair’ is made without “any kind of screws, nails or glue”—instead, it can be assembled by hand via traditional wooden joinery. Once the chair is no longer needed, users can disassemble, pack and wear it on their backs.

Sacrificing comfort for mobility, Penadés “encourages us to reconsider our ideas of contemporary furniture and give them new meanings in a more ephemeral context.”

“Luxury is not anymore a matter of comfort,” he wrote. “Nowadays, luxury is to be able to decide where you want to have a moment of peace, a chance to escape from hectic activity of contemporary lifestyles.”
