Whimsical Hanging Illustrations Made With Thread

Artist Amanda McCavour uses thread and soluble fabric to create gossamer, hanging thread installations. Using a sewing machine, she sews whimsical drawings onto soluble fabric. When the fabric dissolves, the thread images become pretty structures that stand on their own.

The cobweb-like structures communicate the artist’s interest in “the vulnerability of thread, its ability to unravel, and its strength when it is sewn together”.

“I hope to trace absence. My work is a process of making as a way of tracing and preserving things that are gone, or slowly falling apart,” states McCavour on her website.
