Northern Irish artist David Robinson is what some might call a mushroom aficionado—he co-owns ‘Sporeboys’, a mushroom street-food kitchen that creates unique mushroom dishes. He also creates art from mushrooms in the form of ‘Fungi Luminograms’, an ongoing series of photo works.
The luminogram prints are created by exposing Robinson’s fungi arrangements to direct light in the darkroom. The mushrooms are hand-cut into various ephemera, and the intensity of light is varied to create captivating, x-ray like photographs.
“The process of creating the luminogram rapidly causes the destruction of the delicate original mushroom design – each successful print is all that remains. The inspiration for the work, and the materials are as fleeting, ephemeral and transient as each other,” Robinson explained.
