1920s
When 16-year-old Ohio State University student Annalisa Hartlaub was assigned a project for her photography class, she decided to imagine herself in the styles of decades past to see what she would look like if she had lived in a different time.
Her ‘Counter // Culture’ project features Hartlaub taking on a century of fashion from the glamorous flapper chic of the 1920s and the freewheeling hippie style of the swinging ’60s, to the punky leather and grit of the 1980s and the oversized glasses and thrift-store clothes of today’s ubiquitous hipster look.
Each decade is represented by two pictures; one mainstream and one counterculture image that not only compare the differing styles of their respective times, but also show how clothing trends have evolved over the years.
She photographed herself in her own clothes, and achieved the effects with tints and filters to accurately portray the technology of each era.
“I’ve always been fascinated, and a bit infatuated, with counterculture and how it shapes society and mainstream culture as well. So I decided to mix that interest with my love of fashion, makeup, and photography to create something,” said Hartlaub in an interview with The Huffington Post.
