Jewellery Created With Wearable Tech That Protects Women In Times Of Danger

Advertising agency JWT Singapore has created jewellery for women that is not only stylish, but will also help them combat harassment and alert their contacts when they are in distress.

In partnership with the Association of Women for Action and Research (AWARE), the accessory line called Guardian Angel fuses technology with style to combat a more serious social issue.

The Guardian Angel is designed to resemble a halo, but on it is a special button that can be pressed when the wearer is in a precarious situation. Utilizing basic text messaging functionality, it can be used anywhere in the world and does not require the recipient or wearer to download a certain app, or have a smartphone.

Upon pressing the button, a call is made to the wearer’s own mobile phone, allowing her to have an excuse to walk away from the harasser. This is suitable for workplaces or social settings.

In more potentially threatening situations, the wearer can hold the button for three seconds to send a text message to a designated number, such as her parents or a friend, to notify them that she is in danger. The text message provides coordinates and a Google Map link to her location.
