Reuters has published a fascinating collection of photographs that takes a peek into the interiors of a former Soviet Committee for State Security (KGB) headquarters in Riga, Latvia.

The building, known as Corner House, was a symbol of totalitarian might during the Soviet Union’s 50-year occupation of Latvia.

It holds a prison and an interrogation center, and the walls are lined with mugshots of political prisoners, offering a somber look at what life was like under communist rule.

It is slated to be opened to the public and will feature exhibitions and guided tours, as part of Riga’s European Capital of Culture 2014 program.

Check out some photos of the building’s interior below and view the entire set here.
