There are many reasons why couples get a divorce, but for J.Robert Butler, he believes that his daughter’s divorce—and many others—was influenced by the high rate of celebrity breakups.
Founder and president of the Society for the Prevention of Celebrity Divorce, Butler decided to take the matter into his own hands by buying some billboard space and posting anti-divorce messages directed at celebrities.
Shared across Hollywood and Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, his billboards read, “Dear Hollywood, please remember…marriage is a commitment, not a sponsorship opportunity,” while other says, “Dear, Hollywood, when you consciously uncouple, millions unconsciously uncouple too.”
“Companies use billboards to promote their products - soda, movies, cars, phone carriers and more,” he wrote in a blog post. “At the Society for the Prevention of Celebrity Divorce, we feel strongly that billboards strategically placed where stars live and/or work is the best way to deliver our “keep marriage strong” messages.”
“Will they have the desired effect and inspire celebrity couples to stay together? We pray they will, because the price of renting billboard space is high…but not nearly as devastatingly high as the price of losing a marriage.”
What do you think? Are celebrity breakups the cause of divorces?
