While the Apple Watch may be hogging the limelight right now, wearable technology is not limited to watches—the same concepts and features can be applied to other daily-use products, such as clothes, as well.
Creative tech company Artefact Group has made “Purple: A Locket for the 21st Century”—this smart wearable device comes in the form of a stylish piece of jewelry.
Looking like a modern version of a traditional locket used for holding cherished mementos, the Purple opens up to reveal a small circular touchscreen that is designed for displaying updates from your social media networks, including Facebook and Instagram.
However, it is also made to block out the “noise” on social media by only displaying updates from a pre-selected group of people who are important to you—you can browse these updates, or “keepsakes”, with the simple swiping gesture.
To keep its design beautifully minimalist and elegant, Purple is made of timeless precious metals and does not feature a USB port for charging—instead, simply drop the locket into its ceramic charging bowl when its battery level gets low.
Using a mobile app as its “command center”, Purple is currently still a prototype—would you like to see it hit the market?
