Are you tired of regular fish-topped sushi? Here’s something more exotic for your tastebuds.
RocketNews24 recently featured a story of a sushi restaurant in Tokyo’s Ebisu neighborhood that serves horse meat sushi to interested diners.
At the restaurant called ‘Nikuzushi’ (loosely translated as ‘meat sushi’), eight pieces of horse meat sushi would set you back by ¥1,600 (approximately US$15).
Available in different servings such as lean meat, belly, back and seaweed-wrapped diced meat topped with green onions, the horse meat was described as having an “exquisite deliciousness, accented by the meat juices mixing with the warm vinegared rice”.
Owner of Nikuzushi, only identified as Nakamura, revealed that he uses horse meat imported from Canada. Other than keeping the costs low, the meat from abroad is found to be “less gamey” as compared to domestic sources, which makes it a perfect blend to the vinegared rice.
Would you be game to try this unusual Japanese fare?
