Derby the dog was born was underdeveloped front limbs, causing him to walk with the front half of his body close to the ground. Luckily for him, he caught the attention of Tara Anderson, director at 3D Systems, a company that specializes in 3-D printing.

Together with his foster family, the Portanovas, Anderson and her company began to create a pair of custom prosthetic ‘legs’ for Derby. What they eventually created was an oval-tread shape, that was a perfect fit for Derby's unique front limbs.

As Derby takes his first sprint, one can only witness the joy and emotions of that Derby must be experiencing.

This technology is also a testament to the state of 3D printing abilities. If they can do it for Derby, imagine what they can do for humans in need of a prosthetic body part.
