Starbucks’ Powerful Martin Luther King, Jr. Ad Will Make You Stop And Think

To commemorate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday, Starbucks unveiled a powerful tribute that will make you stop and see things differently.

The minimalist ad, which ran in The New York Times, features a black background with the alphabet written backwards. The words ‘M’, ‘L’, and ‘K’ spelling out the initials of the iconic civil rights movement leader are highlighted in red, revealing them to be right next to each other when read in reverse.

Accompanied by the tagline “It’s time to see things differently. Again.”, it’s a quietly fitting tribute to King’s legacy and takes on extra poignancy in the wake of the Michael Brown and Eric Garner shootings, which have led to widespread unrest across the US.
