Helvetica And Other ‘World’s Most Overrated’ Ideas In Graphic Design

Nike Swoosh

Earlier this month, Fast Co. Design invited designers, critics and readers to submit candidates for “World’s Most Overrated Design” to celebrate March Madness—the categories for this “award” are product design, graphic design, digital design, and architecture and urbanism.

More recently, it released the eight ideas picked by its readers for “world’s most overrated graphic design”—many of these “finalists” are pieces of graphic design that are ironically very well-loved and very much hated at the same time.

Including the usual suspects like the Helvetic typeface and minimalist design, other graphic design trends such as letterpress and hand-lettering also made the list.

Read about all eight “overrated” graphic design ideas here. You can also find out about Fast Co. Design’s picks for “World’s Most Overrated Product Design” and “World’s Most Overrated Interface Design”.
