Intricate, Mysterious Paper-Cut Sculptures ‘Emerge’ From Old Books





Based in Cape Town, South Africa, Barbara Wildernboer has created a series of intricate paper-cut sculptures that were made from old books that she sourced from flea markets.



Her paper-cut artworks tend to captivate your attention with its sprawling web of thin paper strands that emerge from each book’s spine, resembling mysterious “sea-like organisms” like jellyfishes and even our nervous systems.



Wildenboer explained that her artworks are created to reflect her “personal response to climate and environmental issues that can often leave one feeling overwhelmed and distressed”.
