Infographic: How The Different Generations Shop Online

It is obvious that each generation uses their digital devices differently, whether it is to consume content or to purchase products and services. It is important for marketers to know these differences and target their desired audience accordingly.

According to a survey done by Millward Brown Digital, device usage varies from generation to generation based on the activity in question. The following infographic is based on data for three generations—millennials born after 1980, Generation X born 1965-1980 and boomers, born from 1946-1964.

The results show that consumers still rely heavily on their laptop or PC for shopping across categories, with millennials pushing the envelope on mobile shopping. However, that is still dependent on the amount of time needed and the importance of the task.

The infographic provides insight for marketers to optimise their reach and help them engage their target audience more effectively. Scroll down to view the full infographic.
