Successful cartoon series of the 1990s, 'Captain Planet and the Planeteers' is reportedly going to power into cinemas in the near future.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony Pictures is working on the "final negotiations" that will allow them to acquire production rights for the feature film.
For those who need a quick refresher, the Ted Turner and Barbara Pyle-created cartoon series focused on the lives of five teenagers who hailed from different corners of the world.
They were given a magic ring that allowed them to harness the power of a certain element of nature (e.g. earth, wind, water etc.) Brought together by the Earth spirit, Gaia, the Planateers' mission was to raise awareness about environmental concerns and battle nasty pollution, while working together to overcome the dark schemes of 'anti-environment' bad guys.
Here's a quick link to the Captain Planet Foundation website, where you can catch some nostalgic episodes of yester-year.
What's your take on a possible come-back of the popular 1990s cartoon, on the big screen?
